Backpack Journalism at Albright College

READING, PA, 12 October 2010 — At the invitation of Elizabeth W. Kiddy, Director of Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Albright College, I attended a screening of the documentary, “The World Stopped Watching” to a group of students and faculty. During the Q&A following the film, we discussed how backpack journalism is changing the media landscape. The methodology is helping avert the abandonment of significant stories, like the Nicaragua story portrayed in the film, by taking the storytelling process out of the exclusive hands of major broadcast outlets. Armed with the tools of production, ordinary citizens like us now can participate at will in the international dialogue that we call “journalism.” (Photo by Esther Gentile)
