WASHINGTON, DC, 11 June 2011 – Kate Fenner was a participant in my 2-5 June 2011 Backpack Journalism Workshop in Washington, DC. Like so many others attending these workshops, Kate is a newcomer to the craft of backpack journalism, her previous experience being still photography. Having said that, she produced a very sensitive and touching film about a young man whose life was radically changed by a single, unexpected event. Kate signed up for the workshop to prepare for a two-month journey to Oaxaca, Mexico, where she will be documenting how immigration to the United States impacts communities in Mexico. You can watch Kate’s film on YouTube.
