WASHINGTON, DC, 14 June 2011 — I am one of numerous American University faculty members presenting at USA TODAY on new technologies, techniques and social media. Leaders at the newspaper understand the importance of keeping apace with these ever-changing forces that impact our profession on a daily basis. My presentations focus on backpack video journalism and visual storytelling, an area into which the newspaper is pushing hard. Hosting these presentations is Sam Meddis, video team lead at the newspaper. Sam oversees an award-winning group of video journalists to expand production and spread visual storytelling skills at the paper, the largest circulation paper in the country. Sam also is a member of American University’s Backpack Journalism Project Board of Advisors.
