Launching the Mexican Foundation for Investigative Journalism

MEXICO CITY, 4 MAY 2010 — I appeared with Epigmenio Ibarra (far right) to launch the Mexican Foundation for Investigative Journalism in Mexico City. Veterans of conflicts in Central American during the 1980s, Ibarra and I participated in a panel discussion about conflict coverage.

The event was led by Ana Arana (second from right), founder of the Foundation. Also present were Maria Elena Meneses, former Univision correspondent and founder of the journalism department at the Tec de Monterrey in Mexico City. Out of view is Luis Miguel Gonzalez, editor of the financial daily, El Economista.

Ana, a long-time friend and colleague from Central America, invited me to help launch the Foundation, and to conduct two Backpack Journalism Workshops at the Tec in Mexico City.
