GURJAANI, Georgia, 26 May 2014 Were on our way to a village near Gurjaani and our driver tells me that on the other side of these mountains is Chechnya. With the newspapers and television broadcasts filled with stories of increasing violence in the region, the tension on this side of the border is rising. People are concerned about Russian intentions in the area.
It reminds me of the old Mexican proverb, So close to the United States but so far from God. I suspect some Georgians might feel like, So close to Russia but …
