Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall

WASHINGTON, 2 NOVEMBER 2009 — Susan Bennett leads a discussion by Robert MacNeil (center) and Tom Brokaw at the Newseum in Washington, DC.

As foreign correspondent for NBC, MacNeil covered the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961. The wall became a symbol of oppression and a closed society. Twenty-eight years after MacNeil’s reporting, NBC correspondent Brokaw reported on the wall’s dismantling.
