WASHINGTON, 29 October 2009 — British photojournalist Sean Gallagher addressed both my Foreign Correspondence class and my Photojournalism class at American University. Gallagher showed examples of his work in China on the process of desertification. Gallagher is sponsored by the Pulitzer Center.
During his presentation to my students, Gallagher pointed out the necessity of being able to multi-task. He particularly stressed the need for writing skills — even for visual communicators like photojournalists or documentary film makers.
He reinforced my mantra to students, especially those who aspire to work as “backpack journalists,” as that model requires one person to do it all. (Photo by Bill Gentile)
