MANAGUA, Nicaragua, 2 July 2011 — The group of volunteers associated with Bridges to Community gathers at Managua’s international airport as they prepare to return to the U.S. after having completed their mission to build four houses in four days for the materially poor in the town of Ticuantepe. Behind them is a portrait of Augusto Cesar Sandino, the guerrilla leader who fought against U.S. Marines occupying Nicaragua during the 1920s and 30s, and from whom the Sandinista National Liberation Front takes its name.
