Backpack Journalism Goes to Venezuela

MARACAIBO, Venezuela, 5 October 2009 — Ana Arana and I speak with students at the Rafael Belloso Chacin University (URBE) in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Ana is an investigative journalist, friend and colleague since the 1980s when we covered the conflict in El Salvador. We were invited by the U.S. State Department to address students at universities in Maracaibo, Valencia and Caracas.

I also spoke with students about backpack journalism and how the field of visual communication has been democratized by hand-held digital cameras and the Internet.

Also above, students at the presentation, some of them interviewing me after my presentation.
