CARACAS, Venezuela 8 October 2009 — I’m showing some of my work from Central America to students at the Andres Bello Catholic University in Caracas on Thursday 8 October. Also seen are students watching the documentary I shot last year in Afghanistan.
The main theme of my week-long visit to four universities in three cities is investigative journalism in difficult situations. During a presentation of my still photojournalism as well as documentary work, I also discuss backpack journalism as part of the future.
Myself and colleague Ana Arana were invited by the U.S. State Department to Venezuela to address university students in Maracaibo, Valencia and Caracas, as well as to interview with numerous media outlets in that South American nation.
I was quite gratified by the level of student enthusiasm that I encountered during the entire visit.
