WASHINGTON, 3 August 2012 — The Sergeant Sullivan Center (SSC) is offering a special scholarship to my Backpack Journalism Workshop this August 16-19 in Washington, DC. The scholarship has been set up by Dan Sullivan, brother of a fallen U.S. Marine. This scholarship is an extraordinary opportunity for anyone interested in the craft of video journalism who wants to take the four-day workshop — for FREE.

The Sergeant Sullivan Center (SSC) is offering a special scholarship to Bill Gentile’s Backpack Journalism Workshop this August 16-19 in Washington, DC, for candidates interested in using the medium of film to tell stories about war fighters and post-deployment health care.
The workshop offers the opportunity to develop or expand filmmaking skills and produce a short documentary that will advance the SSC mission of improving post-deployment health outcomes for present and former service members. The SSC will make camera, computer and editing software available for the participant to produce the video if necessary. The SSC is most interested in profiles of individuals, such as patients, physicians, researchers who are engaged with post-deployment healthcare systems and will consider any topic that is related to life after deployment and the SSC mission of improving post-deployment health outcomes. The SSC will work with the scholarship recipient to develop the story idea to ensure that it furthers the SSC mission by documenting the ongoing struggle for post-deployment health security.
